Question by YPman: how can i tell if my company smartphone has spyware software monitoring it?
i have a blackberry tour and i am curious as to whether there is a way to see if it is being monitored or not. i know there is software out there (like iambigbrother) that could be installed in a device before being given to me. i just dont know how to tell if it is on my device or not, and i am concerned about privacy. (and i really dont want to ask — how awkward)

If you have a company phone about all they have is something like a sophisticated gps unit in your phone to keep track of it’s whereabouts. That phone belongs to them afterall. They wouldn’t want you to pawn it off.

Note: If you are blocked from downloading files, you may have to download them on another computer and run them from a flash drive. If you cannot update Malwarebytes, open Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings > uncheck everything except “Automatically detect settings”, and try again.
Go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/rkill , download and run rkill. After it completes, go to http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and download Malwarebytes, install, update, and run a full scan. Remove any items it finds. If prompted to reboot, do so.
Confirm that the infection is removed and your computer works. Then go into system protection (Start > Right click Computer > Properties > System Protection), select any hard drives with protection on, press Configure…, and turn off system protection. Then reenable it (deletes all restore points).
If these steps fail to remove the infection, you should ask a friend or colleague who knows more and ask them to do it. If all else fails, reinstall Windows.
These instructions are tailored to Windows 7; if you use a different OS, then they may differ slightly. Use common sense.

Question by Jack M: will buying an antivirus software such as Norton Antivirus remove spyware, adware and pop ups from my computer
My computer seems to be infected with spyware. The bar at the bottom sometimes disappear and reappear. I have done a saf scan with Microsoft but at the end the problem remains. Right after the problem appeared, a program offeing to fix it pops up, it’s called WinIFixer and recommends me to get it. I don’t know what to do I have been thinking of going and purchasing a antivirus software from the store, but will that help remove the problem?
Best answer:
Answer by Samuel Adams
Stay away from Norton and do not download anything that pops-up. You will need to get anti-virus and anti-spyware. I do not recommend Microsoft which you mention you are using.
NOD32 and Kaspersky are the best anti-virus applications and much better than the best sellers Norton and McAfee (recent tests at av-comparatives.org). If you want a free anti-virus, AVG, Avast! or AntiVir all are better than Norton (install only 1).
No single anti-spyware application is perfect so I recommend using at least 2 different programs. Spybot Search & Destroy is one of the best. I also recommend SUPERAntiSpyware. Other free anti-spyware programs would be Adaware, AVG Anti-spyware (formally Ewido), A-squared, Spyware Terminator and SpywareBlaster.
I strongly recommend using FireFox, it’s a far better and safer alternative to Internet Explorer. If you add-on McAfee SiteAdvisor, it will warn you of potentially harmful sites. I also recommend CCleaner which is a free system optimization and privacy tool.

Virus/Spyware Removal Instructions:
Download, install, and update antivirus and antispyware programs (found below). Turn off System Restore off (Right click My Computer, to Properties, go the Restore tab, check the box to Disable system restore). Reboot into Safe Mode (pressing F8 on power up). Run the installed antivirus/spyware. After you have verified they are removed turn System Restore on (uncheck the box) and make sure all of your Windows Updates are completed.

Question by dino g: What is the best antivirus and spyware protection for my computer?
anything that relates to security on a windows based computer.anything and everything, ask and u will find the answer here.

Answer by ►PcGuru◄
* Body of your question is confusing…
Are you looking for forums relating to security? Why not just ask what you need to know here.
To answer your headline… In my opinion…
Clean and Protect your PC.
Avast antivirus – it has a boot time scanner. This important feature allows a user to instigate scanning before a virus is activated, in the case that a virus is suspected to be active on your computer already.
* SuperAntiSpyware – Finds viruses and spyware that are very very hard to find with no conflict to other antivirus software.
* Spyware Blaster – Will help keep your system spyware-free and secure, without interfering with the ‘good side’ of the web.
* Advanced Windows care Personal – Will boost your PC and has a Registry Fixer.
* Comodo Firewall Pro – For XP and Vista keeps hackers out of your system and all types of malware.
Do a search for all of these.
Note: Practically all Spyware and Hijackers tend to target ‘Internet Explorer’ and not other browsers. If you don’t mind switching your browser, then you should switch and immediately greatly reduce your risk of infecting your computer. I would recommend… Mozilla Firefox.

Question by James: Is This To Much Spyware Scanners?
Okay so I am working on a girl computer for her and her father seems to be hell bent on security. He installed these programs Malwarebytes, Spybot, Spyware Blaster, SUPERAntispyware. Now I know when it comes to Antivirus you shouldn’t have two or more as they clash is this the same with these apps. I mean I hate to go against her father, but her computer is suffering speed from this. (Also she is running Avira, which has yet to do a successful scan keeps blue screening). This is a Vist Home Basics machine, with 1gb or ram (I know I have already told her to up the RAM). Any help would be great, whether it be which program to keep, there all fine, yikes that one is dangerous and so on. The father read reviews and thought these were all great.

Remove all the antivirus and install Microsoft Security Essentials. It does all the job. Besides, it’s free.
