Question by Andrew H: Does anybody know how to turn off the Anti-Virus Protection in the Windows Security Center?
I already have AVG installed and I know that having two anti-virus programs running at the same time causes problems like slowing the pc down but I can’t seem to find how to disable the default anti-virus.

Answer by kenny r
well this means that you need to shut the other (other than the AVG) program down, which would in turn make windows notify u that your antivirus isnt running, which would make the security center say that your antivrus is turned off. u cant just turn it off through the windows security center. that is just a monitoring screen basically. as soon as you turn off the antivirus u had originally running, it will say that your antivirus is turned off. hope that helped :]

I love ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite. I’ve never ONCE seen any effects from an infection, and it always was very informative on what and what to do about any viruses, spyware, or firewall issues.

If you have a USB storage device, you can use ClamWin Portable, a free, open-source anti-virus that you can use from a USB storage device. I don’t know how reliable ClamWin is though.

Question by anndra medina: what is the best antivirus protection software out there?
I’m using avg right now, but it sucks. I don’t care now if you have to pay for it. Anything good?

Answer by Frank N. Stein
That is a matter of personal opinion. You’re going to get so many different answers on this. I use Avast home edition and it’s great for me, because I don’t download torrents and do anything dumb on the internet. No one anti-virus program will protect you 100%, so it’s more up to you to be careful.

Question by Raptor: Should I get McAfee Total Protection 2011?
I have Mcafee 2010 Total Protection, and it’s been working fine. I thought about switching to AVG or avasti, but I used it in the past and someone about Mcafee seems clearer for me. I know many people say Mcafee is S***, but I enjoy how it works. I still have about 260 days left in my product, but after it ends should I get the 2011 edition, or switch to another antivirus?
I want the best antivirus for under $ 60 USD. I don’t mind paying for an antivirus. Any suggestions?

Question by Old School: What is the very best antivirus protection I can download on my computer free or otherwise?
I had norton it was terrible. It used up much of my resources and I still got a virus that wiped out my windows.
I’m using Microsoft security does anyone have an opinion on that one way or another?

Either the free version of Spyware Doctor that comes with the Google Software bundle or MalwareBytes, available from Malwarebytes.org. If you’re an advanced user you can also download Trend Micro HijackThis but that program is not recommended for non A-Plus trained users as you can accidentally strip your desktop and destroy your operating system with that program if you don’t know what you’re doing.
