Question by thewolf850: Parental Admin Programs?
I have been asked by a parent to block their child from controlling their computer. This kid is able to use keyloggers, and he put a BIOS password on their computer. He then controls his parents access to the computer. He has been grounded so many times, and the parents want me to block him from doing these things. I hate those programs like net nanny and other parental controls. he is above this. i am trying to block a competent computer person from changing passwords, taking control entirely of a computer, and playing games. I want a program that limits the time, and blocks him from being destructive. Any suggestions.
just to note, if he were my kid he wouldn’t look at a computer again. but i cant tell them how to raise their children.

Refuse to do so. Just give a BS reason.
Why? There’s no reason for you to get in the middle of this. It’s not worth your time, or money… that is if you’re getting paid.
Technical solutions are not valid for behavior problems when one has physical access.

I heard there is an Uninstall Button on the programs tool page, but I have never encountered it so I wouldn’t know.
This may help

Question by Speedyguy286: How can I access my programs after recovering from the “Vista Security 2011″ Virus?
Thanks to yahoo help, someone gave me a great answer and I was able to cleanse myself of that horrible virus. My original post was the thing at the bottom…. my real question is how do I access my applications? Everything I had before the virus worked fine, but now every time to access something like microsoft word or firefox (or anything I have downloaded other than the things that come with Vista (Windows) and Internet Explorer), they just don’t work. It says “Error” along with a message of using a DIFFERENT application to open it. HELP? THANKS SO MUCH
.
This is the process I used by Freman:
1 Download RKill and save it to your desktop.
2 Uninstall Malwarebytes (because your installation may have be affected by the fake antivirus) be prepared to reinstall it again.
3 restart the computer in safe mode log on to your account.
4 click ons and run RKill (be patient let it do its business)
5 Install and run Malwarebytes doing a quick scan removing items it detects
6 Restart the computer in Normal mode and update and rescan with malwarebytes.
(Original post now)
Hey everyone… Today I logged onto my computer and noticed these strange little notices saying how my computer had been hacked, etc. I quickly realized from the wording and blockage of all my websites that it was a virus. Thanks to my second generation iTouch I realized this virus is pretty common and hard to get rid of; (which is why I need my internet buds to help me out) the “Vista Internet Security 2011″ Virus (or scam). I am using Windows Vista with an HP Pavillion a1720n computer. I have had this computer for a few years (3 or 4 I think) and I should be getting one in a couple years. I am usually the only one who uses this computer… although there are 7 accounts. Here are some more details I have for all of you nice people to help me:
I am the only user who experiences this problem. So far I get the messages where the time and date is located (bottom left and hand corner), I cannot open any websites except for gmail (my homepage), I get notices how my firewall is down, and I get notices that notice which is a fake report. (I found out about these things coming through my lovely iTouch
)…
One main thing, when I searched it up, I noticed that many answers to the same question I have (for 2010 virus or before) people said to use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware… I indeed tried that; however, it did not work for me
. I tried it on the account that was causing me trouble, as well as this account which works fine. I really want the other account back because it is the one with ALL my data, and not everything is backed up yet.
I have tried:
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (the trial), being in safe mode, Norton (not 360, the trial), Antivir (I had before… just regular version), hitting F8 repeatedly and going to “repair computer” -> “going back in time to before this virus came… (i got it today) but it didn’t work. Do you have to be an administrator to do this? Because when I try to do it from my regular Vista account (I am a computer administrator as it is) … I click on it and then nothing happens. I click on it again and it says it is running already and this window will now close… BUT STILL NOTHING HAPPENS.
So, from the bottom of my heart… although I can’t pay any of you I would be really thankful if I could get many ***DETAILED***, ***FREE SOLUTIONS***, AND KID-FRIENDLY (kid-friendly as in the sense you don’t need to know much about computers… unless there are GREAT directions)…
Thanks so much, if one of you helps me you don’t know how grateful I will be
.
Thanks guys,
A.K.
Oh yes… before I forget I also have one question (I am currently trying the RKill and scanning right now)… for everyone’s answers, do I have to do it on MY specific, infected account? Or should I do it on ANY account, because that is what I’m doing right now.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO RESPONDED! Thanks especially to Fremen. Your tactic worked great!!!
I also have a new question: my programs do not open correctly… i can access the internet through internet explorer… but i wish i could use firefox! It won’t let me =/. Any suggestions? I can only use the default programs that came with Vista: Internet Explorer, Microsoft word (only works on occasions), and computer, control panel, etc. My documents are all safe, but help for the rest?
THANKS AGAIN!
A.K.

There’s a question in there somewhere. Let me find it. Oh, yeah, there it is, in the last paragraph.
Assuming by “can only use the default programs” means you can’t click on a program, say, Firefox.exe, and run it that way, the file association for executables files (.exes) may have been purposely bunged up. Try this to repair that:

Good luck.

Question by whitewolf_of_the_northern_arctic: What anti-virus programs have an animal as on of their mascots?
I know it’s an odd question, but I need it for this stupid English assignment: how people have integrated animals into software (bah! this is stupid). Unfortunately, I drew anti-virus. The only example I can come up with is AVG and it’s cheetah logo. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Question by Kayla Henning: Registry Fix Programs? and Antivirus/spyware.?
Registry: I Have PC Tools Performance Toolkit. Just wondering if I should get a different one?
Like RegInOut, which I downloaded the trial that scans your pc and it found heaps of errors.
Is this just so you buy the program?
Antivirus/spyware. I have PC Tools Spyware Doctor and Antivirus, and it’s almost run out. I’d like to buy a new antivirus/spyware program. I’ve heard Bitdefender is good, I’d want ‘total security 2011′ and thats $ 75 for 3 pcs for 1 year. Any other suggestions?

Registry programs do nothing. Never pay for one and yes some find a bunch of bs just to get you to pay for the program. The whole registry cleaning thing is just a big myth. It’s not a needed program and they don’t improve performance or fix anything. They just delete some obsolete entries in the registry. If they delete something important, you’re screwed.

Question by Garrett Beck: There is a virus wanting me to buy a antivirus program. It won’t let me use my internet or other programs.?
So I was searching around sites, and looking at Youtube for watching old/current movies and I came across one clicked the link, (which seemed legit) and it came to a page that looked like a Youtube based website and I pressed play on the video and my Microsoft Security Essentials asked to clean computer so I clicked okay. All of a sudden a pop up came up saying there was a Trojan/spy-ware found on my computer. I am a decent computer person, tech-savvy so obviously didn’t click okay or cancel or any thing. I tried getting the control Panel up and task manager to end the tree and find the problem but it started saying that it was a virus and would not let me open anything. I tried getting on the internet to get Malware bytes but it wouldn’t let me on the internet. All connections were fine. So I can’t find the problem, I just turned of the computer and set it aside so i don’t make anything worse if you know what I mean.
So if you have any Advice I would love some.
Thank you for any answers!!

You should only have one running at a time.Avast free is much better than AVG, so I guess the pro version would be miles ahead of it.Go to www.threatfire.com and get free threatfire. It’s an anti-virus but it’s made specifically to run alongside another anti-virus.I use it and avast free and nothing has even gotten past both of them running together.
What do you think? Answer below!
