Question by ABC: why is my norton anti virus asking me to turn of my firewall?
It has been about a week and everytime I turn on my computer a box pops that has the Norton Antivirus 360 logo on the top left and then there is an orange circle with an exclamation point that says “Security alert” it reads on to say “The Norton 360 Firewall provides your PC with the best defense against online threats. Norton reccommends that you turn OFF windows firewall. Do you want to do this now?
First of all, why would I ever want to turn off my firewall? I don’t understand. I have noticed though that as a precaution I have been checking my security settings since that box started popping up and usually my firewall is off so I have to turn it back on. When I say “No” to turning it off the little icon goes to my little task bar thingie and I can see the little exclamation thing by my clock on bottom right.
It has been running slow whereas before when I would click to log on it would do it faster. How can I check my PC to make sure that there is no virus? and whats the deal with the security alert thing asking me to turn off my firewall? any advice would be helpful, thanks.

Question by stellaspice: Norton Antivirus – renew or buy new cd?
The price to renew seems steep. Can I buy a new CD from a shop, e.g. from ebay, and still install on my PC OK? Ebay also offers digital renewal cheaper than the norton (symantec)website – does this work OK? I also see on the norton website that if I change the location to united states from the UK I get a much cheaper price quoted – can I buy this way instead? Will it still work OK? I apologise as there is more than 1 question here but I need to think about renewing/updating my security over the next few weeks before my renewal runs out, but at the same time I’d like to do so a bit less expensively !! Thanks in advance for all your help. Are other systems better and less expensive ?

For what it is worth, some things are still free, and work just as well for what you need.
I have been using free AVG for over 6 years straight now, and it updates all the time with new virus definitions. I have not had any serious problems with a virus that it didn’t stop and either destroy or isolate in it’s vault.
Norton has alot of extras, but AVG does all you really need.
Try it out. It’s free. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt to have a spyware killer too. Spybot is a good one. Just be careful here, though, as you can get one that already has malware included if you go with another name.
Some things on the internet should always be free.
Good Luck, and hope this helps.

Question by hi: How to uninstall Norton Security 2011 correctly?
Can anyone tell me how to uninstall Norton Security 2011? I want to correctly do it so I don’t mess up this laptop like I did with my previous one. I also want to know what free virus protection software I should install after inorder for my computer to work properly after I uninstall Norton.
By the way Norton is a trial so if i wanted to use a norton uninstaller program it should still work fine?
About the antivirus free protection software, is microsoft security essentials a good software instead of avast?
Thanks

Norton leaves behind a lot of files that aren’t removed by the uninstaller so I recommend installing Revo uninstaller. It will run the standard Norton uninstaller and then scan your system for left over files and registry entries, download it here…http://www.revouninstaller.com/

Question by Louis: Is Norton Internet Security different from Norton Antivirus?
i have recently downloaded Norton 2011 to replace Avast Home Edition but the Norton package came with 2 files : Norton Antivirus and Norton Internet Security.
i figured i needed to intall both so i started with the Internet Security and everything went fine. But when it came to install the Antivirus i got the following message :
“You are attempting to install Norton Antivirus. However, another product that provide greater protection and includes antivirus fuctionality is already installed on your computer. If you continue with installing Norton Antivirus, the other product will be uninstalled automatically.”
What does this mean? I understand that i already have an Antivirus program as well as Internet Security… so why would they include another installer? Should i install anyway?
thanks for your advices guys.

Norton Internet Security contains everything that Norton Antivirus does, but adds firewalls and improved worm protection. It is a rather heavy software package to run, though, so some prefer Norton Antivirus because of its lesser impact on system performance.

Format your hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

In some extreme cases, anti-virus or anti malware, programs may not be able to remove all malware. It may be necessary to reformat your hard drive and reinstall its operating system. If you’re using a laptop computer, installing the operating system from the partition backup may not completely remove malware. Instead, be sure to get installation disks for your operating system from your hardware vendor and use those to reinstall your operating system.
Norton is commercial crapware it will Not remove the malware infection.
