You should only have one running at a time.Avast free is much better than AVG, so I guess the pro version would be miles ahead of it.Go to www.threatfire.com and get free threatfire. It’s an anti-virus but it’s made specifically to run alongside another anti-virus.I use it and avast free and nothing has even gotten past both of them running together.

Question by CBo: Avast! antivirus (free edition) has found a trojan horse in an Outlook .pst file. How do I get rid of it?
I was running a “Thorough” scan on my computer and allowed it to search archive files in the scan. The scan found a trojan horse on my computer. The malware name is “Win32:BredoLab-k [Trj]“. The pathname of the file was “C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst\Personal Folders\Top of Personal Folders\Inbox\Shipping Confirmation for Order – (random series of numbers)\(random series of numbers).zip\(random series of numbers).exe”. When Avast found the virus, it recommended that I move it to the “Virus Chest”. When I selected that option, I got a message that said: “Error occurred during moving file to chest: The operation is not supported for this type of archive.” I next tried to repair it. I got a message that said “Error occurred during repair…” blah blah blah. I next tried to delete it. I got the same message. So now, I don’t know how to get rid of it.
I suspect that what Avast is picking up is a virus from a SPAM e-mail (one of those e-mails where they pretend that they’re sending you confirmation that a UPS/FedEx/DHL package has arrived and they tell you to open the attachment to view a receipt or something like that). I’ve never opened one of those attachments and I never open those e-mails. However, sometimes when those e-mails go to my inbox instead of my junk e-mail folder, I have to right-click on them in order to send them to the junk e-mail folder. Unfortunately, when I right-click on the e-mail it still ends up opening the e-mail in the preview pane. I don’t know if doing this can still expose my computer to a virus, but if it does let me know.
Anyway, the reason I suspect (again, SUSPECT but don’t know for sure) that the trojan horse Avast detected is from an e-mail is because the location of the trojan is in a Outlook .pst file. .pst files are usually backup files that Outlook creates for my e-mails. If a SPAM e-mail that was sent to me had a virus attached, even though I did not open the virus, it’s still on my computer because Outlook made a backup of the e-mail that it was sent in. So… if Avast can’t access the trojan and remove it, should I just delete the “Outlook.pst” file?

Question by scott m: What Internet security suites for 2007 are the best for window XP home edition.?
I have spent two days trying to look up different security suites. I have tryed CNET and other sites but they are all full of it. The editors always have there favorit picks (who ever pays them the most), but the user reviews are often less than half of what the editors give. For example: I checked Norton 360 on CNET. The editor gives it a score of 8.0 out of a possible 10. The users give it a 4.2 out of 10 with 174 users voting.
I have always used Norton AntiVirus but was never happy with it, and thought now was a good time to change.
Please people I could really use some help. By the way I will also be adding my sons computer, as soon as I get the wireless router connected. Thanks for your help…..Scott

Do NOT introduce any outside unit into a LAN.
It’s an absolute nightmare for the IT guys/gals to root out any malware that gets transferred into it, and may result in end of employment for you (if the policy calls for it).
It’s not worth it on many levels.

Question by neil_575: Will Norton Antivirus 2009 Gaming Edition keep my computer secure w/o sacrificing performance?
Will Norton AV 2009 Gaming Edition give me core protection without degrading performance? Is this one also the choice of AV for gamers? Are there any better solution for gamers like this one? Thanks for the info! 10 points for the most informative answer!

This “Gaming Edition” is only a marketing trick and it seems to work, as you are asking a question about it. If a “Gaming Edition” would offer a light load and such, why do they even have different products, as they could create one solution which contains the best of everything?
On the Norton website they link to certain test results, but it is the normal product which is tested there. It is all a marketing trick.
There is an independent organisation called AV Comparatives which compares anti-virus solutions on various fields. This organisation is recognised by security professionals worldwide, including myself. According to their testing ESET NOD32 is the best anti-virus solution and it has been for ages now. It has only a light load and does its job better than others. There is one anti-virus solution version and one internet security suite version for home users, no “Gamers Edition” nonsense.
