Iv got AVG Anti-Virus and Avast! 4 Professional Edition programs running at the same time and wondering if both of them are open will a conflict with the programs start or a virus slip in? If so which do i stay with and if not is it safe for both to be open?

You should only have one running at a time.Avast free is much better than AVG, so I guess the pro version would be miles ahead of it.Go to www.threatfire.com and get free threatfire. It’s an anti-virus but it’s made specifically to run alongside another anti-virus.I use it and avast free and nothing has even gotten past both of them running together.

Question by CBo: Avast! antivirus (free edition) has found a trojan horse in an Outlook .pst file. How do I get rid of it?
I was running a “Thorough” scan on my computer and allowed it to search archive files in the scan. The scan found a trojan horse on my computer. The malware name is “Win32:BredoLab-k [Trj]“. The pathname of the file was “C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst\Personal Folders\Top of Personal Folders\Inbox\Shipping Confirmation for Order – (random series of numbers)\(random series of numbers).zip\(random series of numbers).exe”. When Avast found the virus, it recommended that I move it to the “Virus Chest”. When I selected that option, I got a message that said: “Error occurred during moving file to chest: The operation is not supported for this type of archive.” I next tried to repair it. I got a message that said “Error occurred during repair…” blah blah blah. I next tried to delete it. I got the same message. So now, I don’t know how to get rid of it.
I suspect that what Avast is picking up is a virus from a SPAM e-mail (one of those e-mails where they pretend that they’re sending you confirmation that a UPS/FedEx/DHL package has arrived and they tell you to open the attachment to view a receipt or something like that). I’ve never opened one of those attachments and I never open those e-mails. However, sometimes when those e-mails go to my inbox instead of my junk e-mail folder, I have to right-click on them in order to send them to the junk e-mail folder. Unfortunately, when I right-click on the e-mail it still ends up opening the e-mail in the preview pane. I don’t know if doing this can still expose my computer to a virus, but if it does let me know.
Anyway, the reason I suspect (again, SUSPECT but don’t know for sure) that the trojan horse Avast detected is from an e-mail is because the location of the trojan is in a Outlook .pst file. .pst files are usually backup files that Outlook creates for my e-mails. If a SPAM e-mail that was sent to me had a virus attached, even though I did not open the virus, it’s still on my computer because Outlook made a backup of the e-mail that it was sent in. So… if Avast can’t access the trojan and remove it, should I just delete the “Outlook.pst” file?

I used that combination myself, until I started getting bluescreens. I was warned on another site that those programs sometimes cause errors. They’re still both good though, and if you don’t get the bluescreens there’s nothing wrong with ‘em.
Note my problem was probably not related. I had heat issues.

Question by Albokid: How does Avast! Work?
Whenever i scan something with Avast, a box shows up and it goes away after a second, It never says Clean or Virus files or anything. I have all setting on high. I scanned the keygen that game me a virus and nothing happened. The Box just Went Away. Whats going on, is that how Avast works???
Before I was using Home Edition.
I Actually bought Professional Adition because of its high reviews, and the same thing happens. A box pops up and goes away pretty quickly.
Is this a Settings error??? What Settings do I need? I tried to reinstall and nothing happened.
What antivirus do you think I should get (I’m going to encounter lots of viruses)

Answer by kborissov
I also have Avast! PRO Edition and the same thing happens to me. So i called the support and they said that this is normal and a box only appears if you do have a virus on the file yous scanned. You can also try a virus simulator. Here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Trojan-Simulator.shtml
Remember that this is a fake virus and will do no harm to your computer.
Good antivirus programs are McAfee, Kaspersky, and Bitdefender.

The paid version will always be better. Though I use both of their free versions (in different machines) and I haven’t had any complaints so far.
