Norton vs McAfee: that is the question

Have you ever wondered which antivirus is the best? Well, in the world today, the similarities between different antivirus software programs are alarming and at times it is difficult to distinguish between two antivirus software programs because they have been upgraded and made in such a way that both are good at what they do. Despite this, some differences still exist between the two antivirus programs. Here is a comparison of the Norton Vs McAfee antivirus.

Despite the fact that both Norton and McAfee have almost similar features, McAfee has been termed by many to offer sufficient overall performance though it has always been seen to be inferior to Norton. However, both of them are easy to install and use. McAfee installation will never be stopped by computer malware already existing in your computer because it has the capacity to remove them as it installs into the system. Another common ground between Norton and McAfee is that they are both able to protect your computer against common threats like viruses, hackers, scammers, worms and any other forms of malicious codes. However, Norton has often been criticized for performing below expectations by internet users.

Despite this, each of the two antivirus programs is not perfect. They all have their shortfalls and differences that you should be aware of as a user. One thing that people are always complaining about Norton is that is that it slows down your computer more than McAfee. However, its control interface is good with main features easily accessible as compared to that of McAfee’s which is better understood by more experienced computer users. Also, the log files in McAfee are more advanced than that of the Norton antivirus software.

Norton system functions by offering protection under different levels. As it functions at the back end, it has other bodies that are working in the frontend and ensuring that your computer is fully protected at all times from threats. It offers options of checking to ensure the proper functionality of your computer and goes a long way in cleaning internet browser cache and your computer registry.

When it comes to firewall, both programs have a good capability to protect users from harmful Internet traffic. This is because they have enhanced forms of firewall that will often handle both common and complicated problems. Whereas Norton firewall is just as advanced as that of McAfee, McAfee is slightly better in firewall support than Norton. McAfee is also good in offering protection against the latest Internet threats. However, the two antivirus programs cannot function concurrently in the same machine.

However, the McAfee firewall does not come with the suite and must be downloaded and installed after the installation of the suite making it a complicated and time wasting process. However, the Norton firewall is integrated in its installation suite. McAfee firewall also has more alerts that often remove you from what you are doing to respond to unlike Norton’s firewall which will make the decisions for you and automatically correct any faults that may need your attention.

Another difference between Norton and McAfee is that Norton has the capability to analyze application files so as to check for virus threats within such files and erase such threats even in circumstances where the said threats do not match with any specified databases. Therefore, Norton is excellent and beats McAfee when it comes to identification of spyware and viruses. However, McAfee is effective in scanning viruses that match to specified databases and for testing the system despite the fact that it is slower than Norton when it comes to this. However, the two are still good at what they do and these are just minor differences between them.

As a conclusion to the matter, it can be said that the two antivirus programs above have often played a major role in the update and maintenance of system databases against security and viral threats. The two have also been players in the field of protecting machines for long and are often maintained and updated through the internet. Which one of the two should you choose to have? Either of them will be good for you since they are almost similar in action. However, the decision as to whether to use Norton or McAfee lies solely with you.

My question was NOT which free one is the best. Learn to read.

Norton 360 vs McAfee vs AVG Free?

Comcast used to offer McAfee for free for Comcast subscribers but now they changed to Norton 360 so any Comcast subscriber can get it for free. Right now I am using the McAfee that Comcast used to give on one computer and AVG on my other computer but I have a question is the Norton 360 a good one or should I just stay with what I have. I’ve been wanting to get it but what I’ve heard over the years and the reviews on CNET have kept me away. I want to know if the V3.0 has really gotten better over the year’s or is it still the same old Norton.
I know that Mcafee or what I’ve seen on my computer is that it doesn’t use that much resources as it used too I have the 2009 Total Protection. Is running a little bit more than AVG 1,200 KB and Mcafee at 2000Kb. Not sure when it scans as I’m not there when it does. I am wondering if the new Norton 360 is still a memory hog as it’s old versions.
I mostly have tried to get any of this companies higher end for free, I have avg 1 year Anti-Virus but is ending next week and because Comcast changed to Norton I am not able to get McAfee without paying so I went here to check if Norton 360 V3 has gotten better than past years.
Thank You
