Avast VS Avira?

I have Avast on my Laptop and i like it, Thinking about switching from Mcafee on my Desktop.

I have never tried Avira.

I have been using freewares Avast Antivirus/Comodo Firewall/Spyware Terminator in my computer for years, they don’t create any problem for me.

Now I’m going to gift a Dell laptop (2.20 GHz // 4 GB RAM // 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium) to my sister and it offers “Mcafee Security Centre 10″ as an option.

Have anybody used this Mcafee product? Personally I hate the way in which security suits give continuous messages/warnings/alerts, does Mcafee also give them?

Also please suggest that what’s the better choice Mcafee Security Centre 10 ‘or’ a group of freewares Avast Antivirus/Comodo Firewall/Spyware Terminator?

Also price of Mcafee is not any factor as it’s coming free.

Okay out of these two options which anti-virus software is better and why?

One of my friends says that Avast! 4.8 is better, he also says that its free and doesn’t slow down your computer in the background.

My other friend says that Mcafee is better.. He argued that its better, you get quality updates and its better than freeware..

Can someone give me more specifics on each of them? Tell me specifically why one is better than the other..

Which one is better? Please don’t suggest AVG, Avira, avast, BitDefender, Malwarebytes, SUPERAntispyware, or any others.
Oh yeah, Microsoft Security Essentials is very good. I have the installer saved on a thumb drive.

When I was forced to buy this system 4 years ago, it came with Avast…It’s worked great accept for about 6 months ago when I got such a bad bug that I had to have it worked on and actually lost some software….
Please give me you personal opinions on free antivirus and why…I’m on high speed here…And don’t tell me Norton or McAfee…I’ve used them both in the past and they both failed on numerous occasions…

Example: Mcafee vs. Avast.

I just installed Windows 7 RC and I’m debating which security software I should install. I have been using McAfee for a while, its pretty good cept it’s a total resource hog and slows things down. I’ve heard about Avast and Kaspersky but haven’t really tried them. I do alot of downloading and p2p type things so I would think I need something solid. Putting money aside, which one offers the best security?

**Also I don’t really want to download 4 or 5 different programs, so an internet security suite would be nicer

What is the better anti virus? McAfee or Avast? What works the best for detecting things and what is good for a slow computer like mine?

I am about to upgrade to 2gb of ram soon so having a slow computer won’t be taken into consideration then but for now what is better?

Take into consideration the load on the computer for both of them and how good they detect things.

Also, if there is a way better FREE anti virus than McAfee Total Protection (nearly 200$) please tell me.
