Question by Constance M: How do I block 3 web site so I can’t access it from my server at home or at work; using both Mozilla & Int Exp
I don’t want to purchase Netnanny or Cybersitter or any of those things. Just want to change my computer’s settings so that it won’t allow me to visit these 3 specific sites. Will my changed settings work both at home and at work (when I plug my laptop into both locations)? Also…I’m not very tech-savvy, so any tips/instructions would need to be spelled out in detail. Thanks.
I followed the directions someone sent me to go to c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc and then type in 127.0.0.1 www.blockedsite.com and it totally worked! Thanks….but I’m trying to block my ex-boyfriend’s personal site (which worked), but I’m also trying to block his My Space page (so I’m not tempted to check up on him). And that one didn’t work. I used the www.myspace.com/HisUserName and it didn’t work. I also went to his page, and copied the address and tried that (without www before it) and that didn’t work either. I don’t want to block all My Space stuff, just his page and a few of his friends. Can anyone help? Thanks.

The best way to do this would be by editing the HOSTS file on your machine.
Let’s say it was Yahoo you wanted to block as an example. Go to the following folder:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
Note: that path there should end in \etc but the fcuking stupid Answers software is chopping the end of it for reasons I can’t even begin to imagine.
In there is a file called HOSTS. Open it up with Notepad and add the following line to the bottom of the file:
127.0.0.1 yahoo.com
Then save the file. No web browser on your machine will now be able to access Yahoo until you take that entry back out of your HOSTS file again. Oh, and do simply *add* that extra line in there, don’t delete anything that’s already in the HOSTS.

Question by Taisi: I have the AVG Free version, and a lot of its stuff is “outdated”–how can I get the updates to work?
The FAQ was of no help; I downloaded a trial version of CyberSitter and it did me no good at all. I’ve got a virus on my computer, and I want to do something about it before it’s too late…
I don’t have money to get it taken in and looked at; if I did, believe you me, I would.

Question by curiouslytryingthis: Can you track what DVD’s were played on your computer?
I have some pre teens that I would like to make sure that they do not watch any DVD’s that are not age appropriate. I can keep them off adult sites with Cybersitter. Is there a way to see if any DVD’s were played on my computer and the titles?

Windows Media player does keep a history of what was played but only if that setting is turned on and you won’t be able to see the history.
You are doing what you can and if they wish to view something, they will either at home or a friends

Question by Yoruichi-san110: Is it safe to click “end tree process”?
I want to get rid of Cybersitter using this method but I don’t know what other programs it may affect. Is there a list of programs that depend on Cybersitter that may not work if it is deleted?

Answer by Brian F
Ending the process does not remove the program from the hard drive, nor does it make any permanent changes to the system. The worst that happens is the computer crashes and you reboot.
Most likely the process is not going to allow you to kill it off. If it does, it will most likely kill off any internet access along with itself.

Best answer:
Answer by teknokev05
Ok friend the first thing i am going to say are you the administrator? If you are go to start, control panel, add/remove programs and find the program and uninstall it. Now if you are on the guest account good luck because there is no way to uninstall it.
