Question by TomatoMug: Paying cash for security vs. free downloads?
My new Presario had Norton 2007 preinstalled and the subsription expired.I bought AVG 7.5 security for .00 and my computer runs totally faster now.I know there’s alot of you out there who’ll say that I’m ignorant for paying vs. downloading a bunch of different free programs.I’m just wary of these “free” downloads and the qaulity/compatibility issues that could arise.

if you afford paying, good for you, but if you are careful you can download a lot of programs without any problems

AVG is an awesome free program. Norton is also good but it has become so bloated over the years and it’s a real memory hog. Many people complain about how much slower their computers run once Norton is installed.
Having said that I use AVG and I’m very pleased with it. If you’re looking for another free program for antispyware, I can also recommend Lavasoft and Spy-Bot. And if you just want to get a free scan to see if you have any problems, Trend Micro is great.

Finally, if you want a really good free firewall, ZoneAlarm is the way to go.

Of course, this is just personal opinion and since you’re familiar with the phrase “poppin’ a cap in someones a**” I’m sure you’re equally familiar with what they say about opinions being like a**holes – everybody has one!
But I think you’d be very pleased with the above products and the big 3 (antivirus, antispyware and firewall) will all be covered. And did I mention they’re all free??
Hope this helps a bit.

Question by top_ace_striker: Norton AV vs AVG …. which is better ??
I had an AVG trial ver 7.1
I had it for arround 6months. It will expire on 15 Jan 2007.
Requiring me to upgrade to AVG 7.5 that cost $$
So I uninstalled the AVG and purchased NAV 2006. Thought that it s the most popular “most trusted”
It run well, but my system seem to start slower…???
1.5-2 min slower (I am runing on AMD Athlon 1.5 Ghz, 512 mb memory)
Then I ran the full system scan for the 1st time, it ran about 40-60% slower.. compared to my older AVG.
Other thing NAV CAN”T resume scanning after it is stopped
I had NAV 2005 before, it ran out of lisence in 06 so I tried the AVG 7.1 free.
The NAV 2005 seem to perform the at same level with 2006 (only new user interface, that r more friendly, techy and fancy) ??? Are there any improvement really from 05 to 06 ?
Now I wish to return the product, but I had activated it already…
So is it really AVG is better than Norton now..
I need the detailed comparison work..
Or what is the best AV so far..
do u have links
++
What about the virus reference ????

AVG is better than Norton. Norton is expensive, annoying, a resource hog and it doesn’t protect you just when you need it.
SUPERAntiSpyware rocks too.

Because the stuff you pay for is usually better.
AVG is good – but its not the best.
If they are giving it away – they wont spend us much time and effort in it as people who are makign their living by it.
Thats the theory anyway.
I use AVG – but there are better ones out there if you are willing to pay for them.
Norton isnt one though – stay away from it – it’s evil.

Question by Natives: Avg vs.SuperAntispywarevs.Norton?
have norton now, have had avg in the past, how is it that even with these people recommend running Superantispyware? Shouldn’t norton or avg do a good job on their own with keeping stuff off computer?
Is Superantispyware safe to use?

Question by ✖Cassandra.Corrosion✖: XBOX vs AVG, Connection gone?
So; I recently downloaded AVG because my boyfriend and his friends highly recommended it(since Norton is a piece of junk)
And lately AVG has been turning my computer into hell.
I have to disable it to play any MMORPG’s and I think it might have blocked my xbox connection.
It was working perfectly till a few days ago and I installed AVG like…well over 3 weeks ago.
So. I will gladly disable AVG to go online on my xbox.
Does anyone know how/where I can unblock my xbox on avg and keep it that way and possibly find the connection.
The xbox deleted my I.P Address and everything so I probably have to re-enter all that information(even though I don’t know half of it)
So help?
