Question by punkinbutt’smama: I need help with computer protection. McAfee vs. Avira?
I had AVG on my computer and it sucked! It didn’t catch any viruses. I installed McAfee and was able to get rid of 44 threats and infections. I have been reading that Avira is a good virus scanner, and is free. I am wondering if it will provide the same protection as the McAfee Total Protection. I’d rather not pay for it, if I don’t have to, and I have 30 days to cancel my McAfee. Any thoughts?

Question by lil’ mermaid: avglink scanner vs. mcafee siteadvisor vs. wot ?
i have the following probs. with them:
WOT: its ratings are not as relaible as i thought. My browser(mozilla) crashed when i entered some site conatining free demoniod invitation code (flagged green/safe by WOT).
AVG linkscanner: it is not compatible with mozilla browsers, leading 2 frequent browser crash, althou they r more reliable.
Mcafee Siteadvisor: after installing, it never showed circles(red, yellow, green) next 2 search results..
soooo… sumbody plsss tell me wat 2 do nw. I’m just getting mad…

use WOT, Site Advisor I use the site not the addon and Finjan, as well as ahost of other apps as I regularly visit ‘dodgy’ or infected sites
All will run without conflicts.
As for the best…..it has to be what the end user is happy using and is comfortable with.
Interesting page on a comparison of ‘safe surfing tools’

Question by wonderbubba9778: Besides having to pay, what is the big difference?
What is the difference between paying for internet security or going with free versions? Example, AVG vs. McAfee.
Best answer:
Answer by IT-Guy
The paid versions will include firewalls, spam blockers, anti-malware etc:
Basiclly just more safety options….but my reccomendation is, to get your free antivirus…AVG, and then search for free firewall/anti-malware/anti-spyware/anti-spam etc: utilities yourself.
Get AVG, and AdAware…both free
