Question by I HATE UGLY PEOPLE: AVG vs. Avast?
Ok I’m getting sick of AVG’s crap. It used to just download the virus definitions daily, and although I had to watch it, it wasn’t too much of a pain. Then it started wanting me to update it every couple of days. It would pop up a box in the corner every hour or say saying there were security problems until I would finally go thru the steps to manually install the update. Now, the regular updates want me to restart the computer too (which I’m NOT going to do). I would ignore it, but it keeps popping up warning boxes that don’t go away until I close them.
So I’m thinking of switching to Avast. Anybody used both? Is it better or worse?

I recently had a problem on YA where it detected ‘unusual web traffic’ from my ISP. I checked my netstat and found a mess of stuff happening on 12080.
I discovered that this is related to the WebShield function of Avast (which I installed just half an hour ago after getting fed up with AVG).
I disabled that function and my netstat showed clean and I was able to post content to YA.
Is there any real benefit to running the WebShield?
Should I continue to run it, and just disable it when posting to Yahoo answers?

I was thinking of finally downloading avg or avast but then I saw limewire also that same list “cnet’s most popular download list” and i just thought, really?
so should I just go ahead and get avg or avast? which is better? what happens if I get both?
