what programs are you using that replaces the paid versions of software. i am not talking about pirated software. i mean for example i use CDburnerXP instead of Nero .. and openoffice instead of MS office.
AVAST instead of a paid antivirus (norton.macfee, kasperky)
Spywareterminator instead of paid antispyware and it also has realtime
Comodo firewall instead of a paid one
thunderbird instead of outlook
comodo registry cleaner intead of the paid alternatives (tuneup utilities)
what about you?
PS i also use linux on my second machine

I have been reading around to find the best free anti-spyware, anti-virus, firewall, etc…and I’ve noticed that Ad-Aware and Spybot (and other more original anti-spyware software) are being taken over by the newer SUPERAntiSpyware & Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and have even read that the originals are now lacking behind in updates and such…true? What would you recommend?
P.S. I use Avira AntiVir, Comodo Firewall, CCleaner, SUPERAntiSpyware & Malwarebytes Anti-Malware at the moment, would you recommend otherwise? (avast! never found a virus…got suspicious and moved onto Avira…)

i currently have AVAST! home edition. i also have comodo FIREWALL. do i really need both? cause i know that AVAST! comes with its on access patrol, and it has picked up things, especially its P2P scanner.
Comodo has done nothing for me. it hasn’t blocked any intruders or anything.
so, do i really need comodo firewall even though i have the AVAST! thingy?
oh btw this is what else Ive got.
Antivirus: AVAST! home edition
antispyware: Superantispyware
antimalware: Malwarebytes antimalware
Firewall: Comodo/ AVAST’s network sheild ect
and spybot for the resident sheild

I am currently using just the basic windows firewall on my laptop but its not doing a very good job, I want a strong firewall that will compliment my avast anti virus and super anti spy ware.
I have heard Zone alarm and Comodo are the two best out there but which would you recommend?
I have read conflicting reviews online about zone alarm having to many ad’s and comodo being to complicated and would like the view of someone who has actually used them over a long period.
Thanks in advance

I have done some research and found these to be the best free Anti Viruses. I don’t know which to use on my computer.
These are the main things I want to know
Which has the best…
- Detection of viruses
- Interface/ ease of use
- Real time protection
- lightness on the computer (doesn’t slow the computer down)
- other features
I don’t need a firewall because i already use Comodo Firewall Pro, nor an anti spyware because i already use Lavasoft Ad Aware. I am also planning on getting firefox.
I’m talking about the free version of AVG

What do you guys think is best Avast free anitvirus or Comodo Internet Security free with a firewall built in it. I use Avast and really like it i just found out about Comodo Security today which is more solid in protection
