Headset Volume Not Displaying :(?

Okay I have a logitech usb clear chat pro headset. It has build in volume control built into it. Everytime I would lower or increase the volume Green Bars would appear on my screen that would increase when the volume went up and decrease when the volume went down.

I recently had to run Ad-Aware on my computer to get rid of some malicious programs. After I did so, it no longer displays the bars anymore. It still changes the volume, and when I open up volume control I can see the “speaker” swatch go up and down; but I no longer have the display of the green bars that came with the headset. I guess the term being used would be the “integrated volume display” or something like that.

Can someone please help me get back my headset volume display?
I’m not sure, but it could possibly have some process that got removed, it might not even by something logitech specific, it could be microsoft. But in the end, I really have no idea what it was or how to get it back. Help me D:

Mildly advanced computer speed help?

In my situation I cannot format and reinstall the OS but I am trying to clean my computer to make it run faster.

So far I have:

-run scandisk
-exhaustively degfragged the HDD with Disk keeper pro, tune up utilities 2009 and the built in defragger.
-disabled the WinXP visual effects
-disabled the indexing of the HDD
-disabled some uneeded services from msconfig and services.msc
-ran ms config and removed the uneeded start up programs
-cleared the sounds scheme
-deleted the *.tmp files
-used CCleaner countless times to clean the registry and HDD
-used tune up utilities 2009 to do the same
-removed all the programs i dont need from (add/remove)
-removed the unneeded components of windows
–manually gone through the registry and cleared some stuff from the software folders
-made the page file a good healthy size
-removed all web browers but one
-set the HDD to never spin down
-deleted all the printers
-gone through device manager and disabled unused items
-gone through the BIOS and disabled what precious few features I could..(nothing counter productive…)
-ran AVG which consistently comes up clean
-ran Ad aware which consistently comes up clean
-the system does not give me any indication that there is any virus or spyware.

no strange error messages appear to pop up at any time

I cannot replace any hardware at the moment so im just looking for software improvements.

one note is that im somewhat unfamiliar with the BIOS. I can only disable the things that are very clear in what they do.

things like “memory hole” or other obscure entries…I have not mucked with….anyone who knows some tricks in the BIOS Id love to hear

building and maintaining and improving computers is my main hobby. so far I have improved the computer but I just want to see if there is more I can do..

thanks for any other clues on how to “trim the software fat”

Ohci1394.sys file is corrupted — what does that mean?

OK, here’s the deal – my neighbor got the “blue screen of death” so she asked me to try and figure out why / what happened. I told her that probably the best thing for me to do is just re-install the OS (XP) and everything else on there. Sort of wipe it clean and start over. She has McAfee on here but does not see a need for any Adware programs (i.e. Ad-Aware Plus – which is what I have). I did tell her that if this turns out to be a rootkit then re-installing isn’t going to help, we’ll just put in a new HD. After some searching I finally discovered (by accident) that the ohci1394.sys folder is corrupted. This is how I found out; I put the “re-installation CD” in to re-install XP; bios is set to read CD first; turned the puter back on; CD fired up but did NOT begin install; on the screen a waring came up “OHCI1394.sys folder is corrupted”. I did a search for ohci1394 and found the folder; opened properties and it states 1394 OpenHCI Port Driver; still didn’t know much so I went to Microsoft and did a search. That didn’t tell me much; didn’t answer my questions.

Here is what I would like to know please:

1) What is this folder used for?

2) What does it do?

3) How did it become corrupted?

4) If I re-install OS will it happen again?

PLEASE, do NOT explain to me how to re-install the OS, I already know how to do this.

I posted this question somewhere else and the only answers I got were ppl explaining to me how to re-install XP. That is not what I’m asking.

My profession is Information Systems, I have a BS in puters; however, IS is a little different from IT. This problem is on the IT level. You can talk to me like a semi-pro geek and I will understand.

Rootkit/Virus Help Pleasseeeee!?

I have run ad aware, malwarebytes, the microsft anti virus tool and mcafee; etc and I started off with all of them finding viruses which all of those say there is none now on full scan.(I guess one of them cleaned it) Search and destroy (Spybot) says I have 1 Fraud malware and Hitman Pro tells me I have one rootkit on the ecache.sys ( which it never removes. I press delet but it doesn’t do it. ). I know something is still on the computer since I still am getting redirected from links. What can I do to get rid of it?
And will deleting me web browsers do anything?

My Yahoo! Home page “Page Options” setting won’t hold. My Narrow View setting is lost when I shutdown.

Similarly, various personal settings to other websites are not holding. I sense this is a problem with my computer and not the individual websites, but I don’t know where or how to trouble shot the problem.

The computer is a HP Pavilion 540n and I have Windows XP Pro/SP2 as my OS. My browser is Mozilla Firefox. I use AVG Free 8.0 (recently installed) and Ad Aware 2007. How do I fix this? Thanks.

How do I monitor and prevent someone from accessing my pc remotely?

I am running xp pro sp3 on my personal laptop. Recently I reformatted it due to some strange behavior, installed avg, ad-aware etc all that jazz only to see the same stuff happen again; admin settings are getting changed, security settings, more importantly my network settings… even as administrator my user rights are now being restricted.

I had no idea what was going on until it hit me that somehow my computer or files is being accessed remotely.

I know this because my cursor started to move on its own and my control panel was opened up right in front of me and I didn’t touch the keyboard

I started to research it and found that there are a variety of CMD one could use to do this…. I turned off remote access everything I knew to do…. I can’t however stop the shares running in computer management and apparently this is a very common way to do it using admin$…………..

I have reformatted and done a clean install several times and is not helping.

How can I block this from happening, monitor it, prevent it…. Anything you can recommend would be awesome!!!!

Virus Help! Rootkit or Hijack?

I have run avast, Mcafee, ad- aware, malwarebytes, super anti spyware and all of them told me I had a virus. I cleaned it out with one of them and then decided to run Hitman Pro. It scanned and told me that I have a rootkit on the ecache.sys driver file in system 32. Hitman pro won’t get rid of it.

Symptoms of My Computer
Links across all browsers redirect to something other than what I am looking for. They never really stop on one site, the just keep redirecting.
Slow computer with occasional BSOD.

Can someone please help me?

Do these specifications match up?

I have to purchase a laptop computer for my daughter, she is going to a Catholic High School in the fall. She insisting on a Mac, but I am not familiar with the specifications. She wants a Mac Book Pro 13-inch. Do these specifications match the ones on the Laptop?

I have Spyware / Adware that blocks all Anti-spyware sites and Update URL’s for AVG etc. what should I do?

I have avg, ad aware, and a-squared antimalware installed. a-squared is the only one that would update because all are blocked. It found ‘Antivirus Pro 2008′ after a scan but I dont think got rid of it when I told it to delete it. It did not find anything upon subsequent scans. I deleted some folders and some in the registry (ie. swearwear, Antivirus Pro 2008) But I still cannot go to a wide variety of even less popular anti spyware sites. It also pops up random crap sites when I click on search engine results ( Usually I can fix it but I am IRATE that I cant this time) I want to kill the person who puts this crap on peoples computers. Please Help. Thanks…
I tried Safe Mode with Networking, still wouldn’t download updates…

norman.com blocked, superantispyware blocked, can download malwarebytes but will not install in safe or regular mode hourglass goes for 1 second then nothing happens. I’m going to track down and kill this person and make a documentary.
