Because the stuff you pay for is usually better.

AVG is good – but its not the best.

If they are giving it away – they wont spend us much time and effort in it as people who are makign their living by it.

Thats the theory anyway.

I use AVG – but there are better ones out there if you are willing to pay for them.

Norton isnt one though – stay away from it – it’s evil.

What do you think? Answer below!

false media these days control the world in the USA they say lies most of the times they tell you information but not all of it they also say white lies and don’t tell you facts numbers and stuff mostly opinions.I use some free software they make my computer run pretty good most of the Products like Nortern is exoensive because it has the full package and some support live on live. But most time you wont need them. They give them free because they know people will be using the internet more and more wich means they get money. Some people buy products because they dont trust other products online and they been told most are fake again the media and that they are the VIRUS. they would probably want that so more people will buy some products that are expensive because the feel “safe” and more more ect…i can keep talking about this it all goes down to media.

Just be careful with stuff, look for reviews(if there are any)
Think about all of the people that use Linux(maybe you should try if you don’t need DirectX)

Do you ever hear about Linux systems getting viruses?
1 if not the only reason why with Linux is because a lot of stuff is Open Source this way people could check for adware/spyware/viruses

If you want to try it just contact me.

Because the free products come without all of the features that the pay version comes with like auto update, auto scan, ect. Pc cillion has an excellent reputation as a effective virus cleaner, yet it also has a great freeware online version of it’s tool. Doing so doesn’t seem to be hurting them, they are among the top anti-virus makers out there.

Other products like ad aware don’t seem to be all that interested in home users which is why it’s free for them. They want the big licensing fee’s from businesses. & because it’s free for home users more people have had a chance to see & use the product, which means more sys admin’s will look to use it on their network equaling a larger payday per order.

Not all freeware is bad. Though, I’d do my homework & look for reviews on anything before you download it. Some do what they are supposed to do, but also come with tons of spyware, pop ups & other nasties. Others are just poorly made & might crash your system. & lastly, some are posted just to put a malicious program on an unsuspecting users pc.

Free products like cleanup & spybot are supported through donations from happy users. Apparently enough folks are ethical enough to donate or the makers would probably stop working on them.

Not all shareware and freeware is bad. There are many, many good ones (adaware, avs, sysjewel, etc)
But, a lot of freeware and shareware install extra “programs” that we call spyware, or adware.

It is important when you install a program, that you do not just hit next, next, next, etc, finish. check to see what is installing, or choose custom install, so you can pick what is being installed.

And the free versions of most anti virus or spy blocker programs, are only a fraction of the program they would like you to buy. Even programs like adaware “encourage” you to buy their full program for all th added protection the free version does not offer.

Remember…nothing is truly free…there is usually something they would like you to buy…which is usually their ‘complete” program.

p.s. the reason Linux does not have hardly any viruses…is because there are so few users…if 90% of the world used Linux, then there would be tons of viruses written for it…and people would be telling you to switch to Windows….. The most popular programs are usually the biggest targets of security issues (Norton, windows, chat programs, etc).
The best you can do, is to educate yourself about a program before you install it.

If you have a good firewall and your virus program automatically scans each file before it lets it go anywhere then I don’t know what the harm could be.

I have shareware and I have never had any problems, but I have had problems with programs I have paid for. One crashed my PC everytime I booted it and I had to figure out the problem and myself. Their customer support were clueless. The problem was that they put the wrong pointer program on the disc so I went to their website and got the correct pointer program from there.

But all I got is “It must be your computer” from customer support.
