I run Vista IE and I have the free AVG anti-virus 7.5, free AVG anti-spyware, free AVG anti-rootkit.
I read that a lot of people recommend spybot S&D, AVAST, Kaspersky. I’ve also seen Firefox recommended.
I can afford to get Kaspersky if needed.
If that is the BETTER way to go, should I combine it with any other programs? Speed is somewhat of a concern, but not at the expense of protection.
I do download adult shared file from message boards. Just looking for the best proection I can get. Technology is not my strong suit.
Firefox vs. IE
Kaspersky?
Combination?
Thank you.
Anyone have any experience with Kaspersky or Norton IS? I hear Kaspersky is great at anti-virus but a little slow. Norton a little better for the technology challenged, like myself.
AVG free edition has scannning capabilities of norton but while scanning it deletes infected files without repairing them avast is also same, bitdefender i heard is good it detects spyware, use zonealarm firewall its free and good
My suggestion, you should not install 2 antivirus in the same operating system. Because it will cause contradiction each other.
Thing that you should notice when you buy anti virus is keeping update from the software. So your anti virus will be updated for the latest virus.
Search from the net which anti virus software has good reputation to detect and eliminate virus.
Alright, well I personally use only avast! for anti-virus (
First of all, is your vista original (Genuine).
If yes, then:
1)- For spyware, malware etc.. download Microsoft Windows Defender. Its really good.(It requires genuine windows)
2)- For antivirus, avg is good, you can also try Symantec(Norton) Corporate Edition. It Consumes less memory, about 64mb ram.
3)- For Browser, ie6 is good, ie7, since it is still under beta testing, and has lot of bugs in it, anyways you must be having it embedded in vista. Mozilla Firefox is also pretty good. others include Opera, Netscape Navigator, and Apple`s Safari. You can check out which on fits your needs.

common sense is a lot of help.. i dont get a lot of viruses and i’m only using 1 antivir.
think about this in real life…
dont eat anything coming from strangers
if they came from friends, make sure they are your friends not just someone with a mask
practice safe sex. dont plug it in everywhere (flash drives)
My favorite combination is:
Kaspersky Antivirus 7 [Antivirus]
Spybot S&D [Antispyware]
Lavasoft AdAware [Antispyware]
Windows Defender [Antispyware-optional]
Comodo Firewall [Firewall]
As for viruses, Kaspersky is the best to detect them. The combination of Spybot, Lavasoft and Windows Defender has been awesome for me. They work great with each other.
Comodo Firewall is one of the best firewalls out there, it protects almost everything and it’s free as well.
So the only thing you should buy is just the antivirus =) others are free. Personal Security should be free afterall.
